Execution Gets 80%. Strategy Gets the Other 20%.

đ Audacious Move⢠of the Week
Stop Overthinking Strategy. Get Obsessed With Execution.
Bold Decisions Create Extraordinary Businesses.
I hope it helps you create yours.
Most organizations have growth backwards.
They spend enormous amounts of time trying to perfect their strategyâand then treat execution as something that happens after the planning meeting.
I learned to do the opposite.
Loosen up on strategy. Tighten up on execution.
On my journey from startup to more than A BILLION in annual sales, I learned that strategy without execution is merely an interesting conversation.
đŻ Get Your Strategy Just About Rightâ˘
You canât create a perfect strategy.
Customers change. Competitors move. Unexpected opportunities appear. And occasionally the market delivers a body blow you never saw coming.
So stop trying to predict everything.
Get your strategy Just About Right⢠and put most of your energy into execution.
Think roughly 20% strategy. 80% execution.
I call this Head Westâ˘.
Know where youâre going without pretending you can predict every turn along the way.
My Strategic Game Plan⢠was designed for exactly that purpose. It answers four questions:
HOW BIG? â Declare your 24-month revenue growth objective.
WHO to SERVE? â Choose the Customer Groups with the potential to deliver HOW BIG.
WHAT do they CRAVE? â Discover what those chosen customers repeatedly care about and reward.
HOW will you COMPETE and WIN? â Create The ONLY One⢠that separates you from the Herd of Sameness⢠and addresses what your WHO cares about.
Now you have direction.
Stop planning. Start moving.
đĽ Ride the Executionâ˘
Execution is where strategy meets reality.
Itâs where assumptions get tested and the plan gets smarter.
Execute. Learn. Adjust.
Thatâs Be Imperfect FASTâ˘.
Create Line of Sight⢠so everyone understands how their job contributes to the Strategic Game Planâ˘.
Lead by Serving Around. Get close to the people doing the work, ask âHow can I help?â and remove barriers.
Cleanse The Inside. Kill dumb rules. Simplify processes. Reduce touch points and friction.
You can teach skills. You canât train people to like people.
And create Dazzling Moments⢠that surprise customers and give them reasons to stay.
đ Whatâs Your Next Audacious Moveâ˘?
Stop polishing the plan.
Get your strategy Just About Rightâ˘.
Then move.
Execute. Learn. Adjust.
And keep moving.
Because growth isnât produced by the plan you write.
Itâs produced by what your organization does with it.

Why AI đ¤ Should Mess With Your Head

đ Audacious Move⢠of the Week
Why AI đ¤ Should Mess With Your Head
Bold Decisions Create Extraordinary Businesses.
I hope it helps you create yours.
Most people are using AI wrong.
They ask it questions.
They ask it to write stuff.
They ask it to give them answers.
I use AI differently.
I use AI as my Collision Vehicleâ˘.
I throw my ideas at it.
It pushes something back.
I challenge it. Reject it. Change it. Ask âWhat if?â Throw another idea into the mix.
And sometimes two ideas collide and something completely new emerges.
đĽ Donât Let AI Do Your Thinking
This is the danger with AI.
Ask it to do all your thinking and youâll eventually sound like everyone else using the same technology.
AI shouldnât replace your thinking. It should give your thinking something to challenge.
I bring my experience.
My judgment.
My ideas.
My intellectual property.
My point of view.
AI helps me pressure-test and improve them.
Thatâs a completely different relationship.
đ AI Multiplies What YOU Bring to the Collision
This is the key.
AI multiplies what YOU bring to the collision.
Bring experience, original ideas, a strong point of view and something uniquely yoursâand AI can help you make it better.
Bring nothing original?
Donât expect AI to magically make you different.
I use AI as a Thinking Partner.
An Editor.
A Research Assistant.
A Content Multiplier.
A Presentation Partner.
A Memory Bank.
And an Execution Accelerator.
One idea can collide with AI and become a sharper concept, an article, a presentation, a podcast, a social postâor something I hadnât even considered.
But the original thinking is still mine.
The better the thinking you bring to AI, the more valuable the collision can become.
đĽ BE Imperfect FAST⢠With AI
I donât obsess over writing the perfect prompt.
I start.
AI responds.
I react.
I revise.
We go again.
Execute. Learn. Adjust.
Thatâs BE Imperfect FASTâ˘.
And itâs exactly how Iâve learned to get more value from AI.
The more we collide, the better the outcome becomes.
đ§ AI Becomes Part of Your Strategic Learning System
This is where AI gets really interesting.
Used properly, AI accelerates the cycle between thinking, doing, learning and improving.
It doesnât just help you produce things faster.
It can help you think better while youâre producing them.
Thatâs why I see AI as part of my Strategic Learning Systemâ˘.
Not the thinker.
Not the strategist.
Not the boss.
The Collision Vehicleâ˘.
đ Whatâs Your Next Audacious Moveâ˘?
Stop asking AI to think for you.
Bring it something worth having AI challenge.
Your experience.
Your ideas.
Your point of view.
Then collide.
Challenge.
Learn.
Adjust.
And create something neither you nor AI would have created alone.
Donât use AI to replace your brain.
Use it as your personal âtest of reasonablenessâ to make your brain more valuable.
Donât ask AI to make you different. Bring something different to AI.

Innovation Doesnât Need More Ideas. It Needs Leaders Who DO.

đ Audacious Move⢠of the Week
Innovation Doesnât Need More Ideas. It Needs Leaders Who DO.
Bold Decisions Create Extraordinary Businesses.
I hope it helps you create yours.
Innovation has become another leadership buzzword.
Everyone wants more of it. Everyone talks about it. Everyone claims itâs a strategic priority.
But innovation doesnât die because organizations run out of ideas.
It dies because leaders fail to turn ideas into action.
In todayâs chaotic, fast-moving world, leadership isnât about fancy declarations, inspirational posters or endless planning.
Itâs about DOING.
Here are four Audacious Moves⢠leaders can make to turn innovation into results.
đĽ 1. DIFFERENTIATE
Forget CLAPTRAP declarations like âWeâre betterâ or âWeâre the best.â
And forget narcissistic mission statements that sound impressive but give customers no compelling reason to choose you.
The end game is ONLY differentiation.
What makes your organization special in a way that matters to the people youâve chosen to serve?
Are you The ONLY One⢠who does what you do?
Define it. Own it. Operate it.
Differentiation isnât about being everything to everyone. Itâs about being something unique to the people youâve chosen to serve.
Because âbetterâ keeps the competition in the conversation.
⥠2. EXECUTE
Stop trying to create the perfect plan.
It doesnât exist.
By the time youâve polished it, analyzed it and held another meeting about it, the world has probably changed.
Aim for Just About Right⢠planningâ .
Then move.
Execute. Learn. Adjust.
Thatâs Be Imperfect FASTâ˘.
And make sure everyone understands how what they do every day connects directly to your Strategic Game Planâ˘.
Thatâs Line of Sightâ˘.
Without it, strategy stays in the boardroom while the organization carries on doing what it has always done.
The challenge is to bake your Strategic Game Plan⢠into the way your organization actually operates.
đ¤ 3. SERVE AROUND
Leadership isnât practiced from an ivory tower.
Get out. Get close to the people doing the work.
Ask one simple question:
âHow can I help?â
Leadership By Serving Around⢠means discovering what prevents people from executing and removing those barriers.
Not micromanaging.
Not issuing instructions.
Helping people get shit done.
Thatâs how leaders build execution muscle.
đĽ 4. DO THE CRITICAL STUFF YOURSELF
Delegation has become another sacred cow.
Sometimes leaders should not delegate.
I call it Strategic Micromanagementâ ⢠.
There are things that are simply too important to hand off.
Defending your strategy.
Selling it relentlessly.
Recruiting Human Being Loversâ˘.
Architecting the customer experience.
Protecting what makes you The ONLY Oneâ˘.
Less delegation. More doingâwhere doing matters most.
Innovation doesnât need another brainstorming session.
It needs leaders prepared to turn ideas into organizational behaviour.
Differentiate. Execute. Serve. DO.
And keep doing.
Because One Audacious Move⢠is NEVER enough.

Put Common Sense Back In The Room

đ Audacious Move⢠of the Week
PUT COMMON SENSE BACK IN THE ROOM!
Bold Decisions Create Extraordinary Businesses.
I hope it helps you create yours.
Thereâs something missing in too many organizations today.
Common sense.
We have more data. More technology. More policies. More processes. More AI.
And somehow, organizations still make ridiculously stupid decisions.
A customer has a simple problem, but the employee canât solve it because âthe policy doesnât allow it.â
A process has 14 steps when three would do.
A rule created 10 years ago is still followed even though nobody remembers why it exists.
And when someone asks, âWhy the hell are we doing this?â
The answer is usually:
âThatâs the way we do it.â
đ¨ People stop thinking and start complying
Rules. Policies. Procedures. Approval levels. Technology.
Some are necessary.
But eventually the machinery takes over.
Instead of asking:
âWhat makes sense here?â
People ask:
âWhat does the process say Iâm allowed to do?â
Thatâs when common sense disappears.
And customers pay the price.
đĽ Build common sense into your Organizational Instinctâ˘
The real test comes when a customer has a problem.
What does your organization instinctively do?
Does the employee reach for the policy manual?
Explain why something canât be done?
Pass the customer to someone else?
Or do they immediately think:
âHow can I solve this for them?â
Thatâs Organizational Instinct⢠â the natural, habitual response an organization has when faced with a customer problem.
Extraordinary organizations instinctively solve problems rather than defend organizational policies.
Thatâs common sense turned into organizational behaviour.
You shouldnât need a management meeting every time something unusual happens.
Your people should know what comes first:
Solve the customerâs problem.
Give them permission to think. Permission to challenge.
Permission to Say YES!⢠when common sense says YES!
đŻ Apply The Common Sense Testâ˘
Take every rule, policy, process and customer touch point and ask:
âDoes this make sense for the customer?â
If the answer is NO, donât defend it.
Fix it.
If a process creates unnecessary friction, simplify it.
If a rule gets in the way of solving a customer problem, kill it.
If employees need permission to do something obviously right, give them the authority to act.
Kill Dumb Rulesâ˘. Cut The CRAPâ˘. Remove whatever prevents people from exercising good judgement for the customer.
đ The Audacious Moveâ˘
Put common sense back in the room.
And make it part of your Organizational Instinctâ˘.
When a customer problem hits, your people shouldnât instinctively ask:
âWhat does the policy say?â
They should ask:
âWhat makes sense for this customer?â
Then give them the freedom to do it.
Because common sense isnât really missing.
Too many organizations have simply trained it out of their people.
