HOPE. STALLS. CAREERS.

HOPE. STALLS. CAREERS.
Career growth doesn’t happen by hoping someone notices you; it happens when you deliberately create experiences and value that make you impossible to ignore.
🚀 Audacious Move™ of the Week
Career Growth Strategies: How to Take Control of Your Career.
Bold Decisions Create Amazing Careers.
I hope it helps you create yours.
🚀 From Aspiration to Achievement: Create the Career Success You Deserve
Everyone wants a better career.
A bigger role.
More responsibility.
More influence.
More money.
But here’s the problem.
Most people drift through their careers hoping someone notices them.
Hope isn’t a career strategy.
After spending decades leading organizations and coaching executives, I’ve learned that careers stall for three reasons:
* No career plan.
* No differentiation.
* No alignment with what the organization actually needs.
Fix those three things and your career changes dramatically.
🎯 Stop Winging It. Build a Career Plan
If you don’t know exactly where you’re going, don’t be surprised when you never get there.
Every successful career begins with a destination.
My approach is simple.
BIG
Define the position you want.
Be specific.
Not “more senior role.”
Not “management someday.”
Exactly what role do you want?
WHO
These are the people who influence decisions, open doors and shape careers.
Know who they are.
Build relationships before you need them.
ONLY
Decide why YOU are the obvious choice.
Not one of many.
The ONLY ONE.
The objective is simple: Become the ONLY person who does what you do in a way that perfectly supports where the organization is headed.
That’s how careers accelerate.
⭐ Create Your ONLY Statement
Most professionals describe what they do.
Exceptional professionals explain why only they can do it that way.
That’s your ONLY Statement.
It’s your competitive advantage.
Start here.
First, understand what your organization is trying to accomplish.
What are its strategic priorities?
What keeps senior leadership awake at night?
Now compare those needs with your own strengths.
Where do they intersect?
If there’s a gap…
Go build the skills.
Here’s mine.
“Roy is the ONLY coach and advisor who uses The ONLY Statement as a practical, proven tool to help organizations and individuals create a competitive advantage.”
Simple.
Specific.
Clear.
Your ONLY Statement should clearly explain why choosing YOU is the obvious decision.
💥 Setbacks Don’t Define You
Every career includes disappointment.
During one corporate merger, I was passed over for a leadership position I expected to get.
I had two choices.
Feel sorry for myself.
Or get back to work.
I chose the second.
I focused on helping the organization succeed.
I refused to take the decision personally.
And I kept delivering results.
Twelve months later, I was asked to become President of our early-stage Internet business.
We eventually grew it into a business generating $1 BILLION in annual sales.
Career setbacks are temporary.
Unless you decide they aren’t.
🔥 Three Career Moves That Actually Matter
Forget the generic career advice.
Focus on these three things.
1. Develop Line of Sight
Understand your organization’s strategy.
Know exactly where it’s going.
Then position yourself to help get it there.
2. Build Your ONLY Statement
Become known for something no one else can honestly claim.
Different wins.
Same loses.
3. Execute Relentlessly
Ideas don’t earn promotions.
The professionals who consistently execute are the ones organizations can’t afford to lose.
💡 Final Thought
Your career doesn’t belong to your boss.
It doesn’t belong to HR.
And it certainly doesn’t belong to luck.
It belongs to YOU.
Build a plan.
Develop your ONLY Statement.
Align yourself with what matters most to your organization.
Then execute better than anyone else.
Because careers aren’t built by aspiration.
They’re built by audacious moves.
And the biggest move you’ll ever make is deciding to become The ONLY One.

Wacky Wednesday: Why Lifetime Customers Should Make Your Rules

🤪 Wacky Wednesday: Why Lifetime Customers Should Make Your Rules
Let’s CUT the company CRAP for a second.
Most so-called customer service rules are absolute nonsense—dreamed up in a boardroom by people whose last real customer interaction was probably complaining about the free peanuts on a flight.
They’re rigid. They’re out of touch. And they’re annoying as hell to the people you need to thrive (customers, right?).
🔥 What If Customers Made the Rules?
What if we did something completely, gloriously unhinged?
What if we handed the pen to the people who actually matter?
Let your customers decide how they want to be treated.
Sounds like chaos?
Good.
Chaos is where innovation lives.
💥 Stop Forcing Customers Into Your Process
Imagine this.
Instead of blasting everyone with the same boring weekly newsletter they never asked for, let customers decide.
* Bombard me.
* Just send the important stuff.
* Leave me the hell alone unless there’s a fire.
Instead of trapping people in a robotic ten-step phone tree, let them choose how they want support.
Quick chat.
Detailed email.
A callback at exactly 3:15 PM.
They’re not participants in your process. They’re the architects of it.
🚫 Customer-Centric Is Dead
I’m tired of hearing companies brag about being customer-centric.
The phrase has been beaten to death.
Forget customer-centric.
Become customer-surrendered.
That’s how you build customer loyalty that competitors can’t touch.
People won’t stay because you’re the cheapest.
They’ll stay because you’re the company that actually listened.
📖 Burn the Damn Rulebook
Do everyone a favor.
Take that dusty, laminated rulebook…
…and throw it in the trash.
Or better yet…
Light the sucker on fire. 🔥
Then let the people who pay your salary decide how they want to do business with you.
Your customers will thank you.
Your employees will be less miserable.
And your bottom line might just throw you a parade.
😈 Be Different. Break Dumb Rules.
Happy #WackyWednesday, you magnificent rule-breakers.
Now go cause some beautiful trouble.
And remember…
The dumbest business rule of all is believing you know better than your customer.
If you’re tired of corporate claptrap and crave more unfiltered thinking on customer experience, leadership, business growth, and differentiation, subscribe for a weekly dose of uncomfortable truths.
Be Different. Or Be Dead.
Cheers,
Roy

PRESSURE. EXPOSES. LEADERS.

PRESSURE. EXPOSES. LEADERS.
Leadership under pressure reveals whether a leader confronts difficult realities or retreats to the comfort of filtered information.
🚀 Audacious Move of the Week
Leadership in The Bear Pit: Turning Pressure into Power.
Bold Decisions Create Extraordinary Businesses.
I hope it helps you create yours.
🐻 Bear Pit Leadership: Turning Pressure Into Leadership Power
The greatest leaders don’t hide from pressure.
They step directly into it.
One of the most powerful leadership practices I’ve ever used was something I called The Bear Pit—an unfiltered forum where employees could tell me exactly what they thought, with no managers, no scripts, and no fear.
It wasn’t comfortable.
It wasn’t predictable.
But it consistently produced better leadership, stronger organizations, and higher-performing teams.
If you’re serious about becoming an exceptional leader, you need your own Bear Pit.
🎯 What Is The Bear Pit?
The Bear Pit is a candid conversation between a leader and a small group of approximately 15–20 employees.
There are no presentations.
No polished agendas.
No intermediaries.
Just honest dialogue.
The leader enters the room alone and invites participants to say what’s on their minds—the good, the bad, and the uncomfortable.
The session can be held in person or virtually, but one principle never changes:
The leader listens more than they talk.
That’s where the magic happens.
💡 Why Bear Pit Leadership Matters
Exceptional leaders know they don’t have all the answers.
The best insights almost always come from the people closest to customers, daily operations, and frontline problems.
Unfortunately, those insights are often filtered out before they reach the executive office.
The Bear Pit removes those filters.
It gives leaders direct access to reality.
Instead of relying on reports and dashboards, you hear what is actually happening inside your organization.
That honesty is priceless.
🤝 Leadership Requires Humility
Walking into a Bear Pit requires courage.
You voluntarily expose yourself to criticism, disagreement, and uncomfortable truths.
Most leaders avoid that.
The best leaders embrace it.
Employees quickly recognize when a leader genuinely wants to listen rather than defend.
That builds trust.
It builds credibility.
And it creates a culture where people are willing to speak up instead of staying silent.
🚪 How The Bear Pit Works
The format is intentionally simple.
A small group.
No managers.
No observers.
No executive entourage.
Just one leader asking questions and listening carefully.
When I first introduced Bear Pit sessions, some of my direct reports resisted the idea.
They didn’t want me meeting privately with their teams.
That reaction revealed far more about their leadership than anything their employees could have said.
If leaders fear honest conversations, they should ask themselves why.
❓ Questions Every Leader Should Ask
Some of my favorite Bear Pit questions included:
* What’s working—and what isn’t?
* What should I be most concerned about?
* Where are we failing our customers?
* What’s getting in the way of great execution?
* Which policies make no sense anymore?
* What “dumb rules” frustrate both employees and customers?
* If you were CEO tomorrow, what would you change first?
Simple questions.
Powerful answers.
🚀 The Impact of The Bear Pit
The Bear Pit isn’t valuable because people talk.
It’s valuable because leaders act.
When employees see their ideas implemented, trust skyrockets.
Engagement increases.
Innovation accelerates.
Execution improves.
People begin believing their voices matter.
That changes culture.
For me, The Bear Pit became a weekly leadership ritual that transformed how I led.
Eventually, employees looked forward to the sessions because they knew something important would happen.
Ideas became action.
Problems were solved faster.
The organization became more agile, innovative, and customer-focused.
🔥 Most Leaders Won’t Do This
Let’s be honest.
Most leaders will never try a Bear Pit.
It feels risky.
It feels uncomfortable.
It exposes weaknesses.
That’s exactly why it creates extraordinary leaders.
Leadership isn’t measured by how well you control information.
It’s measured by how willing you are to hear it.
Especially when it’s difficult.
⭐ Step Into The Bear Pit
If you want to become a leader people genuinely trust, create your own Bear Pit.
Listen without defending.
Ask better questions.
Act on what you hear.
You’ll gain insights no report will ever provide.
You’ll build a culture of honesty and accountability.
And you’ll become the kind of leader people willingly follow.
Because the greatest leadership breakthroughs rarely happen in the boardroom.
They happen in The Bear Pit.
Are you ready to step in?
📩 Never miss a leadership insight.

Thoughtful Thursday: Here’s How “Anti-Hate” Movements Breed Enormous Hate

Thoughtful Thursday: Here’s How “Anti-Hate” Movements Can End Up Breeding More Hate
Welcome to another episode of #ThoughtfulThursday 💥—where we challenge conventional thinking, entertain without apology, and incinerate conformity.
Ready to engage in the fight for real thinking? Let’s dive in.
What begins as a righteous stand against prejudice can, in some cases, evolve into something far more troubling—a movement that speaks the language of tolerance while practicing intolerance.
🎭 When Fighting Hate Starts Looking Like Hate
The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Some people who claim to oppose hate end up responding to disagreement with hostility, outrage, and personal attacks rather than thoughtful debate.
Dissent isn’t simply challenged—it can be dismissed outright.
Question the prevailing narrative and you’re no longer seen as someone with a different opinion.
You’re labeled. Your motives are questioned. Your character is attacked.
Your voice is treated as something to be silenced rather than heard.
The goal shifts from winning the argument to eliminating the argument altogether.
🚫 The New Bullies
It’s a strange twist.
The people who claim to stand against bullying can sometimes become the loudest bullies themselves.
The language is often saturated with moral certainty and contempt.
There’s little room for nuance, almost no patience for honest dialogue, and far too much appetite for public condemnation.
It’s a circus of performative outrage where the objective isn’t understanding—it’s domination.
The message becomes painfully simple:
Conform… or be canceled.
🤔 Whatever Happened to Conversation?
How did opposing hate become so… hateful?
That’s the question worth asking.
Real progress has never come from shouting louder than everyone else. It has always come from listening, debating, challenging ideas, and respecting the right of others to disagree.
Silencing people doesn’t eliminate bad ideas.
It eliminates the opportunity to expose them.
🔥 The Real Danger
The moment any movement believes it owns the moral high ground and refuses to tolerate opposing viewpoints, it risks becoming the very thing it claims to oppose.
That’s not progress.
That’s replacing one form of intolerance with another.
Let’s fight hate without creating more of it.
Let’s challenge ideas without destroying people.
Let’s disagree without dehumanizing each other.
Because conversation—not coercion—is how societies move forward.
#ThoughtfulThursday — Let’s make sure we never become the very monsters we claim to fight.
If you’re tired of the coddling and crave more unfiltered takes, subscribe for weekly doses of uncomfortable truths.
Cheers,
Roy
