Why Execution Is More Powerful Than Planning

Why Execution Is More Powerful Than Planning

In today’s fast-paced business landscape, a significant shift in mindset is necessary to drive success.

Often, organizations find themselves entangled in exhaustive planning processes, dedicating up to 80% of their time on strategy and only 20% on execution.
This disproportionate allocation can lead to stagnation; after all, nothing happens without action.

A radical reallocation of time is required: spend merely 20% on crafting a plan—just enough to get the fundamentals right—and dedicate a substantial 80% to executing that plan.

This shift allows businesses to remain nimble and adaptive, refining their approach as they go rather than striving for unattainable perfection.

Execution is where the real opportunities lie. A mediocre plan, when executed flawlessly, can outperform a seemingly perfect strategy that remains stagnant.

A significant contributor to this dilemma is our education system, which often promotes an abstract, pristine approach to problem-solving.

However, true leadership requires hands-on involvement, what I call “strategic micromanagement”.

This method involves placing your “fingerprints” on critical elements of strategy, ensuring that leadership is present where it counts.

Leaders must also set an example by communicating actionable goals effectively.

For instance, telling frontline workers to create “goosebump-worthy” experiences without guidance is ineffective.
It’s essential to demonstrate what that means in practice, allowing the concept to resonate across the organization.

Through line-of-sight leadership, we can translate overarching goals into specific responsibilities for every employee.

Engaging team members in the execution process fosters ownership and drives results.
When each individual understands their role in the larger mission, it creates an army of advocates pushing toward shared goals.

The secret to scaling your business lies in embracing execution over excessive planning.

By focusing on strategic micromanagement and clear communication, organizations can transform their operations and achieve remarkable success.

Why Gen Z People Should NOT Be Popular

Why Gen Z People Should NOT Be Popular

Listen up, Gen Z. Let’s cut the crap.

Everyone’s out here chasing clout, trying to be the next TikTok sensation or Instagram influencer.

But let me drop some truth bombs on you: popularity is a trap.

Yeah, you heard me. It’s a shiny, glittery prison that’ll suck your soul dry.

Think about it. You’re out there, posting your life for likes, curating your feed to look perfect, and for what?

A bunch of strangers hitting a heart button?

Cool, you’ve got 10K followers. But how many of those people actually give a damn about you? Zero. They’re just there for the show.

Here’s the kicker: popularity doesn’t equal happiness.

In fact, it’s the opposite. The more you chase it, the emptier you feel.

You’re trading your authenticity for a fleeting moment of fame.

And trust me, fame is overrated.

It’s a drug that’ll leave you craving more, but never satisfied.

So, what’s the alternative?

Be unapologetically YOU! Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.

Focus on the people who actually matter—your real friends, your family, your passions.

Build a life that’s meaningful to YOU, not some algorithm.

But here’s the real truth: being different is your superpower.

In a world where everyone’s trying to fit in, standing out is the ultimate act of rebellion. As the book BE DiFFERENT or be dead says, “If you’re not different, you’re invisible.”

And let’s be honest—no one remembers the person who blends in. They remember the one who is unafraid to be different in a way that matters.

Don’t join the popularity contest. Start your own game.

Be unpopular. Be bold. Be the person who stands alone because you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo.

That’s where real impact happens. If you’re ready to break free from the popularity trap, I’ve got something for you.

Check out the book BE DiFFERENT YOU!. It’s a no-BS guide to living life on your own terms.

And if you’re curious where you stand, take The Quiz on my blog.

It’s time to stop chasing clout and start chasing what really matters.

Visit my Blog now. Take the Quiz. Read the book.

And for the love of all things real, stop trying to be popular.

You’re better than that.

Cheers,
Roy

How to Hire Someone Who “Loves” People

How to Hire Someone Who “Loves” People

In the quest to deliver astonishing customer experiences, technical skills alone aren’t enough.

To truly dazzle your customers, you need employees with an innate desire to care – individuals who genuinely love people.

You can train someone to be technically proficient, even to adopt a friendly tone of voice, but you can’t teach empathy or the deep-seated desire to go above and beyond for others.

This inherent quality is crucial for building a team of exceptional customer caregivers.

So, how do you find these “Human Being Lovers”?

The hiring process needs to reflect the importance of this crucial role.  Leaders must be actively involved, setting the tone and ensuring the right candidates are identified.

Forget relying solely on emails and remote interviews; face-to-face interaction is essential.

The interview setting should be deliberate: the prospective employee, the hiring department leader, and the leader’s immediate manager should all be present.

While this might seem overwhelming to the candidate, it underscores the significance of the position and provides valuable learning opportunities for managers involved in the process.

The key lies in two simple, yet powerful, questions posed by the hiring leader:

#1. “Do you ‘love’ people?”

Many candidates will reflexively answer “yes,” anticipating the desired response.  This initial question serves as a filter, moving the conversation to a more revealing stage.

#2. “Tell me a story that proves how much you ‘love’ your fellow human beings.”

This is where the magic happens.

This open-ended question separates the genuine candidates from those merely trying to impress.

You’ll encounter two types of responses:

Superficial stories: These lack genuine emotion and passion.
They’re often rehearsed or generic answers designed to meet expectations, leaving the interviewers feeling unmoved.

Goosebump-inducing stories:  These are the goldmines.  These narratives are rich with emotion, empathy, and heartfelt caring.

They are honest, believable, and leave a lasting impression on everyone present. The passion and authenticity are palpable.

The decision is clear: hire the candidate who gives you goosebumps.

Their technical skills can be honed through training, but their inherent love for people – the ability to connect with and care for others – is a far rarer and more valuable asset.

Once you’ve found this individual, invest in their training and development, providing them with the necessary skills and competence to excel in their role.
Be patient, nurture their talents, and watch the transformation unfold within your workforce.

You’ll see increased employee engagement, soaring customer service results, heightened customer loyalty, revenue growth, and organizational performance that reaches remarkable heights.

The investment in finding a “Human Being Lover” pays off exponentially.

Roy

Stand Alone or Get Left Out: The Power of Separation

Stand Alone or Get Left Out: The Power of Separation

In a world saturated with competition, standing out isn’t just an option—it’s life saving.

In today’s crowded marketplace, being different isn’t a luxury; it’s the key to survival.

The stark reality is this: blend in, and you risk fading into obscurity.

But dare to stand alone and be different, and you position yourself for success.

The power of being different lies in its ability to capture attention, foster loyalty, and create lasting impact.

Companies and individuals who break away from the herd often find themselves leading the pack.

Think of brands like Apple, Tesla, or Uber—they didn’t just follow trends; they created them.

They didn’t try to be better; they aimed to separate themselves from everyone else.

So, how do you stand alone in a sea of sameness?

Start with a clear, unique value proposition.

What do you offer that no one else can?

This isn’t about being quirky for the sake of it; it’s about identifying a genuine gap in the market and filling it with something extraordinary and unique.

Differentiation also requires courage. It’s easy to mimic what’s already working, but true innovation demands risk-taking.

It’s about challenging the status quo, questioning norms, and being unafraid to fail.

If you’re not willing to be wrong, you’ll never be original.

Moreover, standing alone means embracing your authenticity.
People are drawn to brands and individuals who are unapologetically themselves.

In a world of copycats, authenticity is a rare commodity.

It’s not about pleasing everyone; it’s about resonating deeply with the right audience.

The choice is clear: stand alone or get left out.

The path to success isn’t paved with conformity but with bold, deliberate differentiation.

Being different isn’t just a strategy—it’s a mindset.

It’s about carving your own path, owning your uniqueness, and refusing to settle for mediocrity.

So, dare to stand alone.

The world is waiting for what ONLY you can offer.

Cheers,
Roy
